Tour of the Netherlands
MSCC Fellmog Overseas Trip to Holland - Organised by Phil and Elaine.
Ten members of the MSCC Fellmog Centre enjoyed an excellent overseas trip to Holland in May 2026.
Five cars including a 4/4 Four Seater, Plus 4 and three Roadster V6s departed Hull on 2/5 for the overnight crossing to Rotterdam. A very enjoyable "mini cruise" in good weather ensured safe passage to our destination Country. The holiday was based around two Hotel locations in Akersloot and Emmeloord, both part of the Van der Valk chain of hotels. Great accommodation was enjoyed with good food and superb Dutch service.
Day 1 included trips up the Dutch coast to Akersloot including a coffee stop at an Award Winning Whisky Restaurant (we only had coffee - honest).
Day 2 included runs out towards Lake IJssel including a causeway trip to Marken.
Day 3 saw visits to numerous Windmills north of Amsterdam including a fully operational Wood Mill.
On the Journey to Emmeloord on Day 4, the Morgans enjoyed an impressive trip over the Afsluitdijk dam which forms a 20 mile long causeway between the North Sea and the freshwater, Lake IJssel. At high tides, the sea is 3m above the Lake and the dam has protected Holland for nearly 100 years from tidal flooding.
After arriving at Emmeloord, on Day 5 the Morgans enjoyed an unusual trip to Giethoorn - where no cars were allowed! Several Centre members enjoyed sailing around the system of canals which provide the infrastructure for the town's residents.
Day 6 saw varied day runs around the area including a trip to the works famous Kröller-Müller Museum boasting the second-largest Van Gogh collection in the world with almost 90 paintings and over 180 drawings.
On Day 7, the Morgans headed back to Rotterdam to catch the ferry to Hull. On the way, we made an interesting lunch stop at the tiny and very picturesque City of Nieuwpoort. Centre members enjoyed walks around the earth wall fortifications.
All Members and Morgans reached the UK, safe and sound, on Sunday 10th. After 7 days of near perfect, pothole free roads in Holland, the Morgan suspension was again subjected to the imperfections of the British highways. Despite this, all members arrived home unharmed and ready for the next Fellmog run.
